California Chapter Mission

The GCL California Chapter aims to diversify the computer science community through providing access to education for less privileged students, primarily girls. Less than 15% of the technology workforce consists of underrepresented groups and we strive to change that number. We hope our interactive sessions and project-oriented curriculum with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning will help these students to make an impact in not only their own lives but also in their community.

Krish Maniar

BAY AREA, CALIFORNIA CHAPTER LEADER

“Hello! My name is Krish Maniar and I’m 15 years old. I’m currently a rising sophomore at The Harker School in San Jose, CA. My passions include computer science, machine learning, and math. In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer and competing in debate and MUN conferences.

As the leader of the GCL California Chapter, I hope to instill a passion for CS in young girls through machine learning project-based workshops and AI conferences/summits.

Ashley Raigosa

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA CHAPTER LEADER

Hi! My name is Ashley Raigosa and I am currently a junior at Oakmont High School. I love computer science and am experienced in Python, Swift, Java, and Git/GitHub. I lead the Computer Club at my high school and am the blog editor of the meetup group Women in Machine Learning in Data Science (WiMLDS). I enjoy teaching others about programming and at a convention dedicated to helping minorities in computer science hosted by NEST Flight I gave a presentation on GitHub to undergraduates. I love AI and have participated in multiple hackathons involving deep learning and iOS development. In the hackathon Code For Venezuela I helped develop a Facebook messenger app for connecting immigrants in Venezuela to resources like food, water, and shelter and still work on this project to this day. I most recently competed in the International Artificial Intelligence Fair (IAIF) with a team to create an iOS app that can read a user’s tweets to identify if they have symptoms of depression. In this project I created a program to scrape data from reddit for the database, developed the full iOS app, and designed a NLP model. We are currently finalists among over 1,000 projects from around the world. Lastly, outside of programming I love to play the violin, skateboard, and take photos. I enjoy being able to share my passion with others and hope to become involved with more people of diverse backgrounds!

Rishitha Boddu

ILLINOIS CHAPTER LEADER

Hi! My name is Rishi Boddu, and I’m going to be a junior this fall at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. I’m a huge advocate for STEAM and entrepreneurship, fields that I hope to instill interest for in underrepresented demographics with my GCL chapter. I love technology; I have been interested in robotics, coding, app and website development, AI, ML, and other rising technologies for quite some time. I have been doing robotics for six years now and mentored many teams and won many awards including at an international level.

I’m involved in many different extracurriculars including speech team, First Tech Challenge robotics team, girls who code, and many more. With my GCL chapter, I hope to share my passion for science, technology, and entrepreneurship with my members and create a positive and encouraging community of like-minded individuals. I look forward to hosting camps, workshops, conferences, competitions, and also community service opportunities to bring this group together.
